DecoArt Acrylic Paint in Black Lara’s Crafts Split Robin Egg 2 oz. Delta Ceramcoat Acrylic Paint in Mendocino 2 oz. Delta Ceramcoat Gleams Acrylic Paint in 14K Gold 3 Sheets of Quick Stick Adhesive Backed Felt in Black (optional) INSTRUCTIONS: 2. At this time, arrange your half “eggs” on the top… marking their future location so you can avoid painting those areas for better glue adhesion. 3. Base coat the entire piece in the DecoArt Black. Allow to dry. Taking a piece of plain brown paper bag, “sand” each piece to smooth any raised fibers. 4. Using the Ceramcoat Mendocino, paint the outsides of the curved areas brushing in a vertical fashion. Allow to dry. Recoat. Do the same with the outsides only of your “eggs.” 5. Coat the lid in Ceramcoat Crackle Finish, applying a heavy, even coat but avoiding the unpainted areas. (where your future ladybugs will go!) Following the manufacturer’s directions, allow the crackle finish to set, but not dry completely. Take the 14K Gold Ceramcoat paint, coat the top and edges. Only stroke in one direction and only apply one coat. Do not “overwork” the paint. Allow to dry. Also coat the front feet of the jewelry box in one coat of 14K Gold Ceramcoat. 6. Using the end of the handle on your paintbrush, dip into the DecoArt Black paint. Apply black paint spots in an even pattern over all the Mendocino Ceramcoat finish on the curved drawers and the ladybug wings. 7. Using Elmer’s Wood Glue, affix the wings to the bare spots on the lid. If you wish, you can paint a small, rounded body and head before attaching. Otherwise, you will have to paint around the wings, which might prove difficult. Allow the glue to dry overnight. 8. Coat the entire piece with Royal Coat Finish. This will go on white, but will dry clear. If you desire, line the drawers with felt, then reassemble the pieces. Hint: Dip each screw tip in Elmer’s Wood Glue as you replace them. |
