DIY Venus Flytraps (Monroe)

DIY Venus Flytrap

You don’t need to live in a wetland on the East Coast of the United States to have your own Venus flytrap plant. Our DIY carnivorous plants will not hurt a fly, but will add a fun touch of color to any décor display in your home. Make these DIY Venus Flytraps by following our easy instructions. Ask the kids to help you make several and add them to your Halloween display! (NOTE: Bottle caps are available only at our Monroe store location.)

colored moss
Super Moss comes in a variety of colors.

Directions:

1. Paint the ceramic pot with black acrylic paint. Let dry. Then glue the foam ball inside the pot.

2. Glue some moss on top of the foam ball.

3. Bend the bottle caps in half using the pliers.

4. Paint the outside of the bottle caps in green and the inside in pink. Testor Enamel Paint will have a glossy appearance while Acrylic Paint will be more matte.

5. Fold the green chenille stem in half and twist together. Glue one end to the back of the bottle cap.

6. Optional: Curl a piece of pink chenille stem and glue to the inside of the bottle caps to make a tongue. (Refer to our picture)

7. Push the other end of the chenille stem through the moss and into the foam ball.

8. Wrap the extra chenille stems around a pencil to make vines and stick one end into the foam ball.

9. Repeat to add as many flytraps as you would like.
