Walking Set - Purse and Summer Sox

Walking Set - Purse and Summer Sox - Free yarn projectMaterials Needed:
1 ball Magic Stripes yarn
Set of 4 size 3 double pointed needles
1-inch (1.25 cm) button of your choice

GAUGE:
6 stitches to an inch over the k1, p1 stitch pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

Purse:
Body: Leaving a 5 inch tail, cast on 9 stitches. You will use the tail later for seaming the bottom of the purse. Knit one row. Divide stitches onto 3 needles and join, being careful not to twist stitches. Place marker for beginning of round. Purl 1 round, increase 1 stitch on each needle. Work in knit 1 round, purl 1 round, increasing 3 stitches every round until you have 14 stitches per needle for a total of 42 stitches.

Now you begin to knit the pattern stitches.

Pattern Stitch One, Seed Stitch:

Round 1: *K1, p1, repeat from * around.
Round 2: *P1, k1, repeat from * around.

Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 twice, then Round 1 once more.

Then you will knit the following pattern for 6 rounds:

Pattern stitch Two, Rib:

All rounds: *K1, p1, repeat from * around.

Repeat last 11 rounds 4 times. .

Next round: Bind off 21 stitches. You will have 21 stitches remaining.

Flap: Working back and forth in rows on 21 stitches, work in Seed Stitch for 4 rows. Continue in Seed Stitch, decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the next 5 rows - 16 stitches.

Buttonhole: Work in Seed Stitch over 6 stitches, bind off 4 stitches, work to end of row. Next row: Work in Seed Stitch, casting on 4 stitches over bound-off stitches of previous row.

Work 4 more rows in Seed Stitch, and then bind off all stitches.

Strap: Pick up 5 stitches on bound-off edge of Purse, before first row of Flap. Knit these 5 stitches on 2 double pointed needles as follows: knit 5, slide stitches to other end of needle and, without turning your needle, pull yarn across the back of your work and knit 5. Continue in this manner, creating a tube, until strap measures about 36 inches or desired length. Graft live stitches to other side of Purse.

Finishing: Seam bottom of Purse with beginning yarn tail. Tighten buttonhole, if necessary, by sewing a stitch at either end. Sew on button. Weave in ends.
